BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Božava is a village and a small harbor located on the northwestern side of Dugi otok. It is located in a bay surrounded by a pine forest. It has about a hundred permanent residents. Nearby is the island of Zverinac and the village of Soline. In terms of tourism, Božava is the most developed on the island. The place is connected to other settlements and the ferry port in Brbinje by an island road. It is connected to Zadar by a catamaran ship line all year round, and during the season to Ancona.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND SIGHTS
Božava was mentioned for the first time in 1327 under the name Bosane, while the remains of fortified settlements near the place date back to the time of the Illyrians. It is assumed that the Slavs founded their settlement there in the 9th century. It is assumed that the parish church of St. Nikola comes from the same century. On the top of the Nediljino peninsula is the church of St. Nediljice has been mentioned since the 17th century, and there is a small church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on the hill. Certain houses along the coast have walled yards with loopholes, built to defend against pirates from the 18th century.
BEACHES
Sakarun is a spacious beach open to the Adriatic sea. The beach is made of stone pebbles, while the sea has fine white sand. Opatičina beach, a beach covered with small stone pebbles, is in the immediate vicinity of the hotel complex, where you can also enjoy recreation in addition to swimming. Along the hotel complex, and the entire town of Božava, there are flat rocks that plunge into the sea. There is also the Lanterna beach, mostly rocky, with a small part made of pebbles.

Dugi otok is primarily a place of relaxation and enjoyment. Festivities are held in each of the 12 towns of Dugo Otok during the summer months, usually in the name of the town's patron saint, accompanied by the sounds of local music and traditional dishes. Various sports events are organized throughout the year. You must complete your stay by tasting traditional Dalmatian specialties in the restaurants Veli Kamik, Oleander and Boxavia.
SPORT
Supporters of an active vacation will find their satisfaction in exploring the island along the well-marked and marked hiking and biking trails. There is a climbing area on the island and a paint ball field is also arranged in the area of Saljsko polje.
WHAT TO DO AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXCURSIONS
Daily regular lines with Zadar increase the possibility of day trips. Zadar itself is the cultural and entertainment center of this part of Dalmatia. From Zadar, you can go to the national parks of Northern Velebit, Krka and Plitvice Lakes, to the nature parks of Vrana Lake and Velebit, to the canyon of the Zrmanja River for rafting. There is the possibility of renting a boat and sightseeing this part of the archipelago, and we recommend a tour to the Kornati National Park.
ACCOMMODATION
Božava is attractive to visitors because of its numerous hotels. There are four attractive hotels: Maxim, Agava, Lavanda and Mirta. Accommodation is also provided for boaters, in the harbor there is a mooring for boats with the possibility of taking in water and electricity. Of course, private accommodation in apartments and holiday homes is also available.
