BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Soline is a small village on the northwestern part of Dugi otok. It is located in the cove of Soliščica, which, due to its depth, is ideal for anchoring larger yachts and ships. The closest place to Solina is Božava, from where there is a catamaran line with Zadar. The place is connected to other settlements on the island and the ferry port in Brbinje by an island road. There is also a bus line that connects all places on the island with the main ferry port. Soline has only 38 permanent residents who are engaged in agriculture, fishing and tourism.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND SIGHTS
Soline got its name from the old salt pans located in the bay of the same name. It was first mentioned in documents in 1114, making it the oldest settlement on Dugi otok. In the village there is a parish church of St. Jakov from the 15th century. Feast of St. Jakov is celebrated every year on July 25, when live music is traditionally organized. Soline is also notable for the first folk school on the island.
BEACHES
In the immediate vicinity of the village there are several beaches in Soliščica bay and the most beautiful beach Sakarun, about a twenty minute walk from the village. It is a sandy cove of 400 m and is one of the most beautiful on the Adriatic. There is also a bar for refreshments on the beach.
