BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Ivan Dolac is a small town on the southern side of the island of Hvar, belonging to the municipality of Jelsa. It is located 10 km from Jelsa, 20 km from Stari Grad and 38 km from the town of Hvar. It is connected to the rest of the island by a 1.5 km long tunnel. The town offers a beautiful view of the islet of Šćedro and Korčula. It has only 26 permanent residents who are engaged in tourism and winemaking. Ivan Dolac can be reached by the road that leads from Jelsa via Pitavi through the tunnel to the south coast. From Split, by catamaran to the town of Hvar or by ferry to Stari Grad, then by island road to Ivan Dolac.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Ivan Dolac was mentioned as early as the 15th century. Traces of typical Dalmatian culture are visible at every turn. In the middle of the 15th century, the settlement of Zaca existed in this area, the name of which was limited to the eastern part of the coast, and the new name Zavala, after the other part of the place Taja, where there was a monastery from the 15th century, a hamlet in front of the younger Ivan Dolac. In 1901, an inscription was placed on the church in the place, which tells how much fear phylloxera brought to the people, which destroyed the vineyards and thus the existence of the people.
BEACHES
Ivan Dolac with its beautiful beaches is increasingly developing as a significant excursion and tourist destination. The pebble beach in the town itself is rich in sports facilities and has a catering facility. Towards Sveta Nedjelja are the beaches Šuplja stina and Lučišće, Jagodna, Paklina and Petrarčica with white pebbles or sand and capes and bays that provide peace and solitude.

Taste local specialties, fresh fish and quality Hvar wine at the Carić tavern and the Rot and Slavinka restaurants. Ivan Dolac is a quiet place, so if you want some nightlife, you'll have to go to Jelsa or Hvar.
SPORT
Ivan Dolac prides itself on its clean environment, full of aromatic herbs and other Mediterranean flora, so you can go for long walks or bike rides, jog or visit nearby climbing areas. The inevitable joys of the sea are at every turn.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
The island of Hvar is rich in natural and cultural heritage, so you can visit a different place every day. There are tourist agencies in Hvar and Stari Grad that organize trips outside the island, boat tours to neighboring islands or one-day trips to Split, Makarska or Dubrovnik. From Split, you can go to nearby national parks or nature parks. For adventurers, they organize big game fishing and safari tours around the island.
