HISTORY, CULTURE AND ATTRACTIONS
Vrboska was named after the town of Vrbanj, since it was founded as the port of Vrbanja, or from the Latin verboscam, meaning wooded bay. It was built in the Middle Ages, no later than the 15th century. The oldest building is the church of St. Peter, built before the 14th century. Nearby, on the Hvar ager, there are the remains of an ancient villa rusticae. The historic core of the town – the Pjaca – is located around the Church of St. Mary to behind the church of St. Lawrence, the patron saint of the town. The Romanesque church of St. Peter from the 12th century is historically significant. The Fisherman's Museum and Kaštilac, a watchtower from the 16th century, are also significant for the town.
