BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Pazin is located in the very center of the Istrian peninsula and is the administrative center of Istria. Due to its good location, Pazin is accessible from several directions and is well connected by road to the Istrian region, the rest of Croatia and abroad via the Istrian Y. Pazin can also be reached by train, as it is It has a railway station directly connected to Pula, and the nearest airport is Pula Airport, about 50 kilometers away. Due to its specific inland location, there is no possibility of traveling by boat, and the tourist centers of Istria by the sea are about 30 kilometers away from Pazin.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Pazin was first mentioned as a castle (fortified town) in 983 and during the Middle Ages, Pazin saw many ruling families and foreign powers change hands. The Pazin castle is therefore the first attraction that must be visited. It stands with walls from the 10th century. century above the Pazinčica river gorge, and its premises house the Ethnographic Museum of Istria and the Pazin Town Museum, which have very rich historical collections. Churches built in the Middle Ages are a trademark of Pazin and sacral architecture in Istria: the church of St. Nicholas, the church of St. Martin , the church of St. Mary on Škriljinah, the church of the Holy Cross, the church of St. Catherine and the Franciscan monastery. The Episcopal Seminary was the only one built at the beginning of the 20th century and contains a valuable collection of books.


BEACHES

Pazin is located inland and to reach the first beaches you need to travel east to Rabac or west to Poreč, which in both cases is a little over 30 kilometers.

The Pazin area has numerous caves that can be explored, and the most beautiful example of the action of natural forces is the Pazin Cave, a karst terrain and abyss about 500 meters long and about 100 meters deep.
