BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Ičići is a small tourist resort located in the Kvarner Bay at the foot of Mount Učka. It is located not far from Opatija - only 4 kilometers, while it is about 15 kilometers from Rijeka. Ičići can be reached by road from the south or east, after which, upon arrival in Rijeka, the road continues towards Opatija. Ičići can also be reached very quickly from the west of Istria, and the distance to the nearest Istrian towns is about 30 kilometers. The nearest train stations are the Opatija-Matulji train station and the Rijeka train station, while Rijeka Airport is the closest destination for air travel. The port in Ičići is very small and only accepts smaller vessels.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Ičići began to develop in the late 19th century, following the example of nearby Opatija. In the following years, Ičići became a popular tourist resort, while after World War II a new settlement with holiday homes, a hotel and a camp was built. The legacy of Ičići's development from the early 20th century is the Art Nouveau villa Münz built in 1903, and many other beautiful villas from the early or mid-20th century can be visited. The port in Ičići is another interesting location that speaks of Ičići as a prominent economic settlement. The nearby town of Veprinac is a medieval town where you can visit the parish church of St. Mark from 1572, the City Gate and the Bituh viewpoint.

BEACHES

In the very center of the town is the beach of the same name Ičići, which is one of the most beautiful in Kvarner. The beach is the center for all swimmers who visit Ičići and offers a wide range of activities. It consists of a concrete part with a catering service and a pebble part near the sea. Various sports equipment can be rented on the beach and you can enjoy a variety of catering services. It is important to note that the beach has a blue flag, which means exceptional quality and cleanliness of the sea water and environment. Other beaches that can be visited are in nearby Lovran and Opatija.

OTHER CONTENT

The most common specialties of the gastronomic offer of Ičići are Adriatic fish, crabs and shellfish, but asparagus can also be added in the spring and a diverse range of cheeses. Famous restaurants are Commodore, Galeb, Triestina, Dopolavoro, bistros Lučica and Venezia. Cafes and bars that are open until late at night are Callypso, Calimero and Hofer, and most of the nightlife is related to the beautiful Ičići beach. Health tourism is particularly important in Ičići and there is a diverse offer of content adapted to the needs of each individual. For enjoying cultural content, the Unplugged Music Festival and the Liburnia Film Festival are planned, where you can enjoy documentaries with outdoor screenings. A slightly different offer of content can be enjoyed in nearby Lovran and Opatija.

SPORT

The Ičići Sports Center offers tennis courts. Other sports activities and designated courts can be found in the Učka Nature Park. The slopes of Učka will be a great place for cyclists as they offer trails surrounded by beautiful nature where you can enjoy riding and fresh mountain air. Sailing and diving are activities available along the coast, and Ičići Beach has fenced courts for water polo, beach volleyball, football and badminton.

WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

The most beautiful destination for excursions is certainly the Učka Nature Park, less than half an hour's drive away. The famous 12-kilometer Lungomare promenade connects the towns of the so-called Opatija Riviera and is a wonderful way to get active and enjoy sightseeing the beauties of Kvarner. Visitors eager for wonderful nature and a beautiful view of Kvarner can visit nearby Veprinac.
