BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Selce is a port and tourist resort located on the northeastern edge of the Kvarner Bay, 3 kilometers from Crikvenica. Its very good traffic position allows you to reach Selce from the direction of Zagreb, where you can choose between the Rijeka-Zagreb highway or the old road from Zagreb ending in Gornji Jelenje. Visitors coming from the west, starting from the traffic routes of Central Europe or Istria, can reach Selce very quickly, and it is also accessible from the south by highway. The nearest destination for arrival by plane is Rijeka Airport, 23 kilometers away, while the nearest railway station is in Rijeka, which is a little over 40 kilometers from Selce. The port of Selce has a smaller capacity, it receives about 120 boats and is mainly connected to local shipping traffic, and the nearest ferry port is Rijeka.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Although the inhabitants of the Selce area were present in ancient times, we know most about the history of Selce from the Middle Ages, when it was first mentioned as part of the then Bribir County in 1366. The history of Selce was marked by the famous noble family Frankopan from the 13th century onwards. With continuous development, Selce opened its first swimming pool in the 19th century, thus beginning its development as a tourist destination. Sacral art in Selce can be seen when visiting the Chapel of St. Catherine from the pre-Romanesque period and the Chapel of St. Joseph built in the Baroque period. The parish church of St. Catherine from 1888 is a great example of architecture from the historicist period. In the center of Selce, you can visit the gallery space that preserves the so-called "toč". This is a stone wheel that was used for oil production and probably dates back to the 18th century. An additional attraction in the town are the villas that were built at the beginning of the 20th century.

BEACHES

Selce is full of beaches that stretch north all the way to Crikvenica. Very interesting and attractive beaches for tourists are Amabilis, a smaller pebble beach located right next to the hotel of the same name, and the pebble beach Poli. Rokan Beach is probably the most famous, as it was awarded the Blue Flag for the exceptional cleanliness of the sea and environment. Parts of the beach are concrete and pebble. The beach is suitable for children and the elderly, and there is an excellent range of catering facilities in its vicinity.

OTHER CONTENT

In Selce you can taste many dishes typical of Kvarner, with an emphasis on fish and seafood delicacies. Good food and drinks can be enjoyed in the restaurants and taverns Maslina, Kantunić, Marin and Ded Mate. Cafes and bars Kiss, Visconte or Orange offer relaxation near the beaches, and the nightlife of the town is associated with klapa singing, dancing and a range of local specialties. Selce has long been known as a tourist destination that offers a peaceful holiday without too much noise. During the summer season, Selce offers various fishermen's evenings, outdoor shows and concerts, and maritime regattas.

SPORT

The Mihurić Diving Center in Selce is the first choice for an active vacation because it organizes high-quality diving adventures and courses. Fishing is another activity related to the sea that is most strongly expressed during organized competitions. Other activities offered include basketball and football fields, cycling, and sports equipment rental near the beaches.

WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

There are many day trips on offer, during which you can visit the nearby Kvarner islands or national parks. The excursion boat "Paša" is particularly attractive, a vessel built as a model of a pirate ship from earlier centuries. The well-maintained promenade in Selce can provide a nice sightseeing of the coastal area by the sea. Selce, as part of the Crikvenica Riviera, also offers sightseeing of nearby towns because they can be reached very quickly.
