CULTURE, HISTORY AND SIGHTS
Selca was first mentioned in the Povlja Charter from 1184. At first, it was a shepherd's settlement and, together with Povlja, it belonged to Gornji Humac, but thanks to stonemasonry, its influence grew rapidly. The village has a small church of St. Anthony and the local neo-Romanesque parish church of Christ the King. A life-size monument to Pope John Paul II was erected near the church. In addition to the pope, there are also busts of Dr. Franjo Tuđman, HD Genscher and A. Mock. There is also a monument dedicated to LN Tolstoy in the village. Selca has a brass band, a mixed choir and a drama company.
BEACHES
Since Selca is not located by the sea, the beaches of Sumartina and Povalja are available to everyone. We recommend the Puntinak cove.
OTHER CONTENT
Local food, fresh fish, good wine and quality olive oil are offered in the restaurants Ruzmarin, Park Petrovac and at the agrotourism Hacienda and Petrovac. During the summer, numerous festivals, concerts, plays and poetry evenings are organized – all as part of the Selca Cultural Summer.
SPORT
Those who want an active holiday in addition to the joys of the sea can participate in the Selca Run, which is held every year in June through old, rugged olive groves and beautiful nature. The sports summer event offers numerous activities such as competitions in football, bocce, tennis, basketball and cageball. You can rent a scooter, jet ski, quad, car or speedboat and explore the island or the coast and neighboring islands.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
In Selce, there are organized excursions. In addition to exploring Brač, from Sumartin you can go to Makarska, from Bol to Hvar, and from Supetar to Split and beyond. As for Brač, we recommend visiting the Blaca desert, the old Škrip and Dol, the Dragon's Cave, and for those a little younger, nearby Bol offers a rich nightlife.
ACCOMMODATION
Selca offers private accommodation in apartments and holiday homes.
