BASIC INFORMATION
Lumbarda is a small town located on the eastern side of the island of Korčula, belonging to the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. It is only 6 km from the town of Korčula, and the town has a population of about 1000. As for transport connections, there are ferries (which can be reached by car and which transport cars), the nearest lines are in Vela Luka and Korčula, while the nearest airports are in Dubrovnik and Split. If you want to come by bus, it is also easy, there are daily lines from both Zagreb and Dubrovnik to Korčula.
CULTURE, HISTORY
Numerous archaeological finds, among which the most significant is the Lumbarda Psephism from the 4th century BC, are actually the first data about this settlement. Many artists come from Lumbarda, and it is believed that this area was inhabited by different peoples and cultures. The rich history of this place is evidenced by numerous churches (the church of St. Bartholomew, the church of the Holy Cross, the church of St. Peter and Paul, etc.), as well as the archaeological site and the Old Castle.
BEACHES
It is an understatement to say that Lumbarda offers beautiful beaches, some of its beaches have been declared the most beautiful and most famous in South Dalmatia. Vela Pržina is one of the aforementioned sandy beaches with crystal clear sea and all the necessary amenities, this beach is truly magical, Bilin Žal is also a beautiful sandy beach with a stone wall along it that provides shade for those who want to escape the sun for a bit, we will also mention Tatinja and the pebble beach Marina Lumbarda which is located in the very center.
OTHER CONTENT
Lumbarda has a rich selection of taverns and restaurants offering Dalmatian specialties as well as traditional local dishes. It is worth mentioning the Torkul pizzeria, the Skafetin tavern, and the Zure restaurant - the offer is truly diverse. There is also a rich summer cultural and artistic program when concerts of a capella groups, church choirs, folklore performances, and fishermen's evenings are held. You can also spend time walking along the beautiful promenade, and for those who want to party until the early morning, they can visit a nightclub in the town of Korčula.
SPORT
There are cycling and hiking trails in the town, and in the summer, tournaments in handball, beach volleyball and five-a-side football are organized. Lumbarda also has a diving center, as well as a fitness and martial arts center in the very center.
SIGHTSEEING, EXCURSIONS
There are numerous organized boat trips to nearby islands, such as Mljet and Lastovo, you can also go on a trip to the cities of Hvar, Split, Orebić, Dubrovnik and Korčula, and there is also an organized hiking trip to the peak of Sveti Ilija on Pelješac.
ACCOMMODATION
You can stay in the family hotel Borik or in numerous private apartments and rooms. Most of the apartments have a sea view and are located just a few minutes from the sandy beaches. There is also a mini camp Vela Postrana in the village.
