BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Murter is a northern Dalmatian island located in front of the town of Pirovac. The surface of the island is 17.58 km². The settlements on the island are Betina, Tisno, Jezera and Murter, which is also the largest settlement on the island. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge in the town of Tisno. According to the last census, there are 5,100 inhabitants living on the island, who are engaged in agriculture, mostly olive growing and viticulture, shipbuilding, fishing and, of course, in recent times, tourism due to the exceptional natural opportunities. You will reach Murter via state road D8 (Adriatic highway), and the nearest airports are Split and Zadar.
PLACES
Murter, Tisno and Betina are the centers of the island of Murter. The proximity of Kornati is a great advantage, and if we add to that the beautiful Mediterranean climate, pine forests and rocky shores, we get an ideal option for a quiet, but also active vacation, as there are numerous opportunities for sports fans. Murter is also an important center of nautical tourism on the Adriatic. With its four marinas, two ACI (Piškera and Žut) and Hramina and Vinci marinas, it can host a large number of sailors.
CULTURE, HISTORY and SIGHTS
The island was inhabited by the Illyrians in prehistoric times. It was first mentioned by the Greek scientist Ptolemy under the name Scardon. The remains of the Roman settlement of Colentum, numerous ruins of vacation homes, frescoes and mosaics confirm the presence of the Romans. It is assumed that the Slavs came across an empty ancient settlement and settled that area. Under the Croatian name Srimač, it was mentioned in 1251, and under the name Insula Mortari, it was mentioned for the first time in 1318, according to which it later got the name Murter.
BEACHES
Numerous bays with sandy, pebble and stone beaches attract visitors from all over. They all have accompanying catering facilities, they are also suitable for children because they have the natural shade of a pine tree and sports facilities. The most famous bay is Slanica, then Luka and Čigrada in Murter, Jazine and Sv. Andrija in Tisno, Zdrače, Plitka voda and Kosirina in Betina.

The island of Murter is suitable for a family vacation. There is a wide range of restaurants and taverns that offer local Dalmatian food and local wine.
WHAT TO DO AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXCURSIONS
On offer are one-day trips offered by local boatmen to Kornati National Park and Krka National Park, followed by a tour of Šibenik, which is 29 km from Murter. You can also head to Zadar further north or Trogir, Salona or Split further south. All cities offer countless cultural and entertainment facilities worth visiting.
ACCOMMODATION
There are five hotels with three stars on the whole island. These are the Colentum in Murter, the Tisno and Borovnik hotels in Tisno, and the Say hotel in Jezera. Hotel Stomorin is located in Hramina marina. Apart from them, you can find accommodation in several guesthouses and in a large number of private apartments, rooms, houses or holiday villas. The Slanica car camp and the aforementioned marinas are also available for those arriving by boat.
