BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Novi Vinodolski is a town, port and tourist centre located in the southeastern part of Kvarner, next to the Vinodolska Valley along the coast of the Velebit Channel. The nearest towns are Senj, 27 kilometres away, and Rijeka, just under 50 kilometres away. The town is at the crossroads of roads leading to the sea and the coast, as well as roads connecting the centres of continental Croatia with the coastal regions via Ogulin, and via Rijeka it connects to Istria and Central Europe via the Adriatic Highway. In addition to by car, Novi Vinodolski is easily accessible by bus from several centres, as there is a bus station close to the town centre. The nearest railway station is in Rijeka, and the nearest point of arrival by plane is Rijeka Airport, 30 kilometres away. The port of Novi Vinodolski is designed to accommodate some ships, and its traffic and infrastructure are constantly growing.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Known even in ancient times and in the period after the arrival of the Slavs, Novi Vinodolski would gain its affirmation in the 13th century as the center of the Vinodol Principality, which would be ruled by the Frankopan family. The original document of this status is the Vinodol Code from 1288, which is one of the first documents of customary law in a Slavic language and written in the Glagolitic script. You can learn more about this document by visiting the Frankopan Castle, where the Frankopan family once resided. It houses a reading room and a museum. Among similar buildings, you can also visit the Roman fort of Lopsica. Old medieval churches that can be visited are the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the remains of a Pauline monastery, the church on the islet of San Marino, the church of the Holy Trinity, the cathedral church of St. Philip and James, and the church of St. Fabian and Sebastian. To get to know the indigenous Vinodol culture, it is recommended to get to know the Novi Vinodol folk dance and folk costumes.

BEACHES

In Novi Vinodolski there are several smaller beaches to choose from, each characterized by clear sea and a rich selection of nearby restaurants. The most famous beach in Novi Vinodolski is the Lišanj beach. It offers numerous entertainment facilities and has a well-maintained section for children. Mala Draga Bay is a dog beach located near the nearby Povila.

OTHER CONTENT

Novi Vinodolski has long been known for its local produce and authentic coastal cuisine. The fertile Vinodol Valley is primarily associated with the cultivation of local varieties of wine, which, along with other gastronomic delicacies, can be tasted in the Antika and Bonaca restaurants and the Mate tavern. Other restaurants are located in nearby Bribir and Tribalj. To enjoy the beautiful terraces of cafes, you can visit the Passage, Mandrać, Arkadia or Kaktus coffee bars. The center of nightlife is the LP club. Among the many events, the popular international summer carnival in July and the Vinodol Summer Evenings should be highlighted.

SPORT

There are over 300 kilometers of cycling trails in Novi Vinodolski, which will attract many cyclists eager to ride in beautiful nature. Not far from it is the beautiful Tribaljsko Lake, where fishing takes place all year round. There are basketball and football fields in the town itself. The beaches offer sports equipment rental and the possibility of sailing.

WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

There are several walking and hiking trails that can be a great place for a trip and a walk – the Wave Trail, the Karst and Cliff Trail, the Cliff Trail, the Green Trail, the Heavenly Trail, the Roman Trail and the Degenia Trail. Perhaps the most famous is the “Stone Pillar Trail”, at the top of which there are two attractive caves. Novi Vinodolski is also very famous for its viewpoints, which are also referred to as the “Eyes of Vinodol”. These are six viewpoints that are literally “scattered” throughout the Vinodol Valley. The beautiful nature also offers the possibility of hunting for lovers of similar activities.

Hotels Tamaris, Lišanj and Adria Beach are the most famous accommodation facilities in Novi Vindolsko. In addition to private apartments, accommodation can be found in the camps Povile, Katalinić, Klenovica, Kozica and Sibinj. Marina Novi is one of the most prestigious and modern marinas in all of Croatia. Marina Mitan is also a highly praised marina by boat owners.
