BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Opatija is a city, port and tourist center located on the Croatian coast on the coast of the Bay of Rijeka, and is located 10 kilometers from Rijeka. You can reach Opatija by car via Slovenia via the Ljubljana-Postojna-Rupa-Opatija route, via Italy via the Trieste-Kozina-Pasjak/Rupa-Opatija route, and via Zagreb via the A1 highway from Zagreb to Rijeka. Opatija is also accessible from the south. The nearest destination for arrival by plane is Rijeka Airport, 45 kilometers from Opatija. The nearest train stations are Opatija-Matulji Station and Rijeka Station. For arrivals by boat, the port of Opatija is provided.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

The first mention of Opatija, which is roughly placed in the 12th century, is closely linked to the Church of St. James. The church can still be visited today and its version, built around 1420, still represents one of the most beautiful city landmarks. The continuous development of the settlement during the Middle Ages will experience its heyday during the 19th century, when Opatija slowly becomes one of the leading tourist destinations in Europe. In 1844, Villa Angiolina was built, which many tourists visit and tour today and love walks in the Angiolina Park. St. James Park also has wonderful promenades, and as must-see places for sightseeing and walking, we can mention the Juraj Šporer Art Pavilion, the Swiss House, the Opatija Portico, the Hotel Kvarner building from 1844 and the Croatian Walk of Fame.

Opatija's beaches are characterized by top-notch equipment, accessibility for children and the elderly, clean sea and a wealth of facilities. The most famous Opatija beaches are Lido Bevanda Beach Resort, Angiolina Beach, Royal, Lipovica, Škrbići, Slatina City Beach, Tomaševac Children's Beach and the Savoy Hotel Beach.

Opatija has its own fitness center, the Marino Cvetković sports hall, and a trip to the nearby Učka Nature Park offers a variety of outdoor sports activities.

Although sightseeing in the center of Opatija is a real short trip, the famous 12-kilometer Lungomare promenade will be the first choice in Opatija for anyone who likes to enjoy sightseeing in Opatija and walk along the beautiful Opatija Riviera.
