BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Bol is a municipality in Split-Dalmatia County. It is located on the southern side of the island of Brač and is one of the most famous Croatian tourist destinations. The municipality consists of two settlements: Bol and Murvica. Bol has a catamaran line with Split and Jelsa on Hvar, and if you are coming by car you go via the main Brač port - Supetar. Brač also has its own airport, so that is also an option in the season. Bol has 1630 inhabitants who are primarily focused on tourism and hospitality, then agriculture and fishing. The world-recognizable symbol of Bol is the Zlatni rat beach.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The name "Bol" is derived from the Latin vallum, which means a burial, an earthen rampart, a settlement fortified with earth. Bol was first mentioned as a locality in 1184 in the Povaljska charter, made in the building of the so-called Bishopric (a Dominican monastery). The first records of Bol as a settlement date back to 1475. Bol's noble families built luxurious buildings, such as the Renaissance-Baroque palace that stands in the middle of the coast today. The civil architecture is complemented by the house of the brotherhood of St. Nicholas, the oldest known brotherhood in Bol. A special place is occupied by the Dominican church and the museum within the church with a rich archaeological collection, the local church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the "Branislav Dešković" art gallery, etc.
BEACHES
In addition to the most attractive beach, Zlatni Rat, Bol also has other beautiful pebble beaches that offer more intimacy. These are: Bijela kuća, Borak, Kotlina, Mali rat, Martinica, Porat, Potočine, Račić and Zadruga. Some are combined with rocks, and each has its own natural pine shade.
OTHER CONTENT
The nightlife of Bol is extremely rich, even the richest on the entire island. Entertainment, concerts, exhibitions, fishermen's evenings and festivals attract visitors from all over the island, both domestic and foreign. The most famous cocktail bars are Varadero, Aquarius, Bolero, Yolo, Marinero, Taverna and Moby Dick. There are numerous beach bars on the Zlatni Rat beach itself, and the new disco club 585 has recently opened. The range of restaurants, pizzerias and taverns is extensive. Let's mention the restaurants Argento, Belvedere, Mali raj, Mendula, Moby Dick, Marija, Santo, Ranč, the taverns Dalmatino, Dinko, Food & fun, Mlin... For pizza lovers there are Gogy, Maza, Topolino, Navis, Skalinada and Taverna Riva.
SPORT
There is a wide range of sports activities and fields. You can play tennis, table tennis, handball, soccer, basketball, ride bicycles, enjoy beach volleyball, jump on a trampoline. However, the most numerous offer is water sports: windsurfing, water skiing, swimming and diving, renting pedal boats, boats, gondolas and kayaks. Lovers of antics at sea can try their hand at riding a jet-ski, on bananas, reels and a parachute pulled by a speedboat. A large aquapark is offered to the youngest, but also to those a little older.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
From Bol you can conquer the island, to Vidova gora, Dragon's Cave, Blaca desert and other places. You can also take a catamaran to Hvar, or a ferry to Makarska or Split. You can also rent a boat to the more distant Vis, around the entire island of Brac and beyond.
