CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Pučišća was formed from the Croatized Latin word puteus (puč) which means well. The symbol of the town is stone, the white Brač stone, as evidenced by numerous quarries, some of which are now extinct. The tradition is continued by a secondary stonemasonry school - the only one in Croatia. In addition to stone, Pučišća is also known for its olive groves and vineyards, while tourism is the future of the town. Renaissance castles stretch along Pučišća, and Ciprijan Žuvetić from the 15th century stands out. The Povalj Charter from 1184 is kept in the parish church; it is the oldest preserved charter written in the Croatian language.
