BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Sutivan, with its 720 inhabitants, is certainly one of the smallest Croatian municipalities. It is located on the island of Brač, opposite Split, from which it is 13 kilometers away. It stretches along the northwestern coast of the island from Mirac to Bobovišće. Sutivan can be reached via Brač airport or from Split, from where ferries run regularly, every hour in the season. The ferry ride takes 50 minutes to Supetar. Supetar and Sutivan are 6 kilometers apart, and you can get there by bus, car or taxi.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The name Sutivan comes from the early Christian basilica Sanctus Johannes, and the locals and other islanders mostly call it Stivan. Sutivan as a settlement developed alongside the aforementioned church of St. John. Some recent findings reveal that the town developed in parallel with the construction of Diocletian's Palace because an emperor's dignitary built his palace there. Today, the population is connected to agriculture, fishing, shipping and tourism. The town has a wide range of monuments that you can visit. Some of them are the aforementioned church of St. John on the foundations of an early Christian basilica from the 6th century, the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from the 16th century, the catacombs at the new cemetery, the Ilić family windmill, the church of St. Roko from the 17th century, the Kavanjin summer residence, Kastel Marijanovića, the Definis house complex and the monument to Croatian defenders.
BEACHES
Pebble beaches along the town itself are Likva, Bunta, Stipanska, Vičja Luka, Bistrica, Grgina and a newer one only for dogs at the exit from the town along the old road towards Mirci.
OTHER CONTENT
The offer of restaurants and similar facilities is quite satisfactory for this small place, and can be expanded by going to neighboring Supetar, Milna or Mirca. Of the restaurants, they are Dora, Bracera, Miki and Resort Velaris Garden & Grill, tavern Bokuncin. There are also numerous coffee bars such as Macel, Palma, Marina, Lorena, disco bar and restaurant Modrulj and Resort Velaris Garden.
SPORT
Sutivan is the best up-and-coming cycling destination in this part of Dalmatia. In the summer, there is a ballet school and a school for young shipbuilders. The St. Rok football tournament in August attracts various football teams and visitors from the island and beyond.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to renting boats to cruise the nearby islands and visit neighboring towns such as Split, Šibenik, Trogir and Omiš, excursions are also organized around the island itself. Bol, the Blaca desert, Škrip and other picturesque places are worth visiting during your stay on the island. Near Sutivan there is also the Sutivan Nature Park, suitable for the youngest, where they can socialize with animals and play various sports such as basketball, five-a-side football, beach volleyball or boules.

In addition to the luxurious Lemongarden Hotel, accommodation can be found in another 2,000 beds throughout the town. Luxury villas with swimming pools are increasingly common accommodation units in this small town near Split and Supetar.
