BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Dugi otok is an island in the Adriatic Sea, on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic. It belongs to the Zadar group of islands. It stretches in the northwest-southeast direction. Its area is 124 km². It is 43 km long and up to 4.6 km wide. According to the last census, there are 2,873 inhabitants. There are 11 settlements on the island, the largest being Sali. Its highest peak is Vela straža at a height of 338 m. There are numerous islets in front of the coast. The economic base is agriculture, beekeeping, fishing and tourism. Dugi otok has several daily ferry and boat lines with Zadar. Ferry ports are in Brbinje, Zaglav, and to a lesser extent in Salij and Božava. All settlements are connected by an island road that is also served by a local bus line.
DESTINATIONS
The island abounds in natural beauty, and the Telaščica nature park in the southern part, Velo and Malo jezero near Žman, Solinščica bay and Saharun bay stand out. There are three lakes on the island, two periodically sweet and one permanently salty in Telaščica. The Kornati National Park is in the immediate vicinity. In recent times, an attempt has been made to revive interest in the Strašna peć cave near the town of Savar. The most interesting for tourists are Sali, Božava, Luka and Soline.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND SIGHTS
The island has a lot of historical and prehistoric remains. There are numerous prehistoric traces, among which stand out the stone industry from the Velorat area from the end of the Paleolithic and the Vlakno caves in the center of the island. In the cave, they found a 20,000-year-old cultural layer, among them a preserved human skeleton, the only one of its kind in the entire Adriatic. Dugi otok is mentioned by Konstatin Porphyrogenet in the middle of the 10th century. under the name Pizuh. There are remains of Illyrian fortified settlements and stone burial mounds all over the island. On the Mala Proversa isthmus, there are the remains of a villae rusticae, which has been preserved, and from the old Croatian period, small churches, dry-walled houses and graves have been preserved.
BEACHES
The western coast is very steep, while the rest of the coast stretches along a series of bays, among which Solišćica, Pantera and Telašćica stand out with their sandy beaches. Near the island there are many smaller islets and rocks where you can enjoy privacy. Dugooto's beauty, Sakarun beach, will charm many with its beauty, and satisfy everyone who wants crystal clear sea and white sand at their fingertips. Sakarun, like many other long island bays, is a safe harbor for sailors.
OTHER CONTENTS
Dugi otok is ideal for a family vacation. Dugooto's festivals are a combination of live music, fine food and good fun until morning. Leading the way is the Salja festival called 'Saljske užance', which lasts three days and includes various presentations of folk customs, while the locals participate in gastro-competitions that will delight all those with a sweet tooth. For those who don't want to wait for the fun to start, there are various restaurants with different but predominantly Mediterranean cuisine, as well as cocktail bars and pastry shops, where you can taste the island way of life and its gastronomic tradition.

In addition to the opportunity to visit the island's places and natural beauties, you can plan an active vacation by cycling, hiking, diving, hiking or kayaking. A great advantage is the proximity of Zadar as the cultural center of this part of Dalmatia.
ACCOMMODATION
There is hotel accommodation in Sali, Luka and Božava. There are two camps and a large number of private accommodation facilities on the island. In Salim, Brbinje and Božava there are moorings arranged for the reception of boats, with the possibility of taking in water and electricity. In Veli Rat there is a marina Baotić. Anchoring is also possible in other Dugošto bays.
