BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Hvar is a town on the island of the same name, in the Split-Dalmatia County. It is located on the western part of the island, in a bay facing south with a view of the Paklinski Islands. Hvar is the largest settlement and administrative center of the entire island. The town is rich in history and one of the most famous tourist destinations in Croatia. According to the latest census, it has about 4,200 inhabitants who are engaged in agriculture, fishing and tourism. The town of Hvar can be reached directly from Split by catamaran or by road from the central part of the island.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The history of Hvar has been going on for thousands of years. The oldest known settlement, founded by the Illyrians, is located in the area of today's Hvar. On top of the hill is the fortress - Gradina. Hvar is also one of the cultural centers of Croatian Renaissance literature. Hvar is also home to the Museum of Croatian Heritage, and the Days of Croatian Theater are held every year. It is rich in cultural and historical sights, so visit the Radošević, Ivanić and Doimi palaces, the Hvar Cathedral dedicated to St. Stephen I, the Gothic-Baroque Bartučević house, the Hvar Arsenal, Fontik, the Hvar Theater, the Napoleon Fortress and the City Lodge, numerous churches, the Benedictine monastery or just walk along the city walls or have a coffee on the central city square - the largest in Dalmatia.
BEACHES
A special experience is staying in untouched bays near the city, which can be reached by car, bike or on foot. Almost every one has a restaurant or a suitable place for refreshment. The beaches are rocky or pebbly. These are Vela Garška, Pokonji dol, Pribinja, and a few kilometers away the bays of Pišćena, Mekićevica, Dubovica and Zaraće. Opposite the city, you can reach the beautiful Paklinski islands by boat.
OTHER CONTENT
Lunch in one of the many restaurants with fresh fish and quality olive oil and wine is a must, and we can only name a few: Dva ribara, Spice, Jerolim, Podstine, Palača Paladini, Park and Conte. On the Paklinski islands these are Tri grede, Mlini and Ždrilca. Nightlife attracts young people looking for good fun from all over the world. After warming up in the numerous coffee bars, you can go to the famous Carpe Diem or the disco clubs Fortica or Veneranda.
SPORT
In addition to the inevitable joys of the sea, you can rent a bike and explore the island, rent a boat and cruise around the Paklinski Islands, or use the five-a-side football or tennis court.

Like any tourist gem, Hvar is abundant with hotel accommodation (hotels Amfora, Adriana, Riva, Pharos and Palace), private apartments and holiday homes, and luxury villas. There are anchorages for yachts in the port, and on the Paklinski Islands there is the ACI marina Palmižana for those who come and stay in their own vessels.
