BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Jelsa is a settlement and municipality on the island of Hvar, in Split-Dalmatia County. The municipality consists of 12 settlements. It is located on the northern coast of the central part of the island, and is bordered by the two highest island peaks, Sveti Nikola to the west and Hum to the east. The entire municipality has a richly indented coastline with its own islets, coves and capes. Jelsa is connected by catamaran line to the largest Dalmatian city of Split or via Stari Grad by ferry lines.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Jelsa developed in the Middle Ages as the port of the village of Pitve. The old Jelsa town - Civitas vetus Jelsae refers to the ruins of a medieval fortress on the Gradina peninsula. The patron saint of Jelsa is the Assumption, and the parish church is St. Fabian and Sebastian. The Days of Antun Dobronić event is held in Jelsa from 15 July to 15 August. The Wine Festival is held on the last weekend in August, attracting visitors from various regions. The beginnings of tourism date back to ancient times, as evidenced by the numerous villae rustcae, the remains of which can be found throughout the Hvar plain, and it is also worth visiting the Illyrian-Greek fortress Tor from the 4th century BC.
BEACHES
The sandy beach Mina is about 500 m from the center of Jelsa and is ideal for children. The sandy cove Grebišće is a little further away (1.5 km). It consists of two coves, Vela and Mala. The pebble beach Vala sv. Luka is 4 km away, and is specific for its archaeological site from the Roman era. There is also a small church on the cape.
OTHER CONTENT
Taste the flavors of Dalmatia and the Mediterranean in numerous taverns and restaurants. Good food is accompanied by quality Hvar wine and olive oil. Let's mention the taverns Vrisnik, Frina, Pitve, Humac, Nono; the restaurants Murvica, Artichoke, Nepoleon and Turist and the Arsenal tavern. During the summer, numerous exhibitions, performances, festivals, concerts, tastings and sports competitions are organized.
SPORT
In Jelsa there is a sports hall for basketball, volleyball and other sports with an outdoor football pitch. The hall can be used by locals and guests. There are also tennis courts and mini-golf courses within the hotel. You can rent boats, speedboats, bicycles or motorbikes and explore the island or the coast. There are diving training centres, and there is also the possibility of playing paintball.

The island itself offers numerous day trip options. Every place is beautiful and worth a visit. You can also take a panoramic tour of the island or go to Grapčeva špilja, or take a catamaran to Split or Bol on Brač.

Jelsa has two hotels; Hvar and Adriatiq Resort Fontana. For camping fans, there are camps Mina, Holiday and Grebišće. Guests who like to stay on their vessels in the port of Jelj have 40 moorings at their disposal, and the offer of private accommodation in apartments, houses and holiday villas is numerous.
