BASIC INFORMATION
Blato is a Mediterranean town located in the center of the island of Korčula, belonging to the southernmost county in Croatia, Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Traffic connections are favorable given that Blato is located at the junction of the Dubrovnik and Split regions, i.e. near the cities of Split and Dubrovnik, which are the carriers of regional development, and both cities have airports. It is possible to arrive by car, ferry, or bus.
CULTURE, HISTORY, ATTRACTIONS
After World War II, industry and tourism began to develop in Blato. The town was named after a lake that was later drained, and today Blato Field is located there. Blato is extremely rich in historical heritage and landmarks, including: the famous Barilo ethno house, the sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Petković, and the Blato parish church of All Saints, which is located in the very center of the town on Plokati Square.
BEACHES
It is recommended to visit the beaches in one of the nearby bays where you can enjoy the clear sea and the scent of pine trees. For example, Prigradica has a pebble beach suitable for children and is located only 4 km from Blato. Prižba, which is an ideal tourist destination, is 8 km from Blato and consists of two peninsulas and several smaller bays, while six uninhabited islets stretch out in front of it, thus offering a wider selection of both pebble and sandy beaches with all the necessary amenities.
OTHER CONTENT
Blato Summer is a tourist event that takes place in the summer months and offers a diverse entertainment and cultural program. The gastronomic offer in this place is rich, mainly natural food prepared in a traditional way, we will single out the Zlinje restaurant and the Tinel pizzeria. The place also stands out when it comes to the production of wine and olive oil, figs and carob, so it is recommended to try these local specialties. As for nightlife, Blato is more of a place for a relaxing or active recreational vacation, and for those who want nightlife there is Korčula, which has a nightclub for young people.
SPORT
In Blato, you can certainly have an active and varied vacation, thanks to numerous cycling and hiking trails and promenades, so water recreation such as swimming, sailing and diving are not the only options.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION / SIGHTSEEING OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to sightseeing the town itself, you can also visit other places on the island of Korčula, there are many beautiful scenes, cultural heritage and other attractions that are worth seeing. From Korčula, there are also organized excursions throughout South Dalmatia, both by boat and by bus. We will list some of the excursions: a trip to the Mljet National Park, to the Pelješac peninsula, a trip to Dubrovnik, Ston, etc.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation on offer consists mainly of apartments and other private accommodations located in numerous bays on the south and north sides of the town, and there are also three campsites near the town where you can stay. The nearest ferry ports are in Vela Luka and Korčula.
