BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Istria is the largest peninsula on the eastern coast of the Adriatic and forms part of Croatia's border with Italy and Slovenia. Istria has very good road connections with the rest of Croatia and Europe. It can be reached by train from Zagreb or Ljubljana, and the main center of air traffic is Pula Airport. For maritime transport, there are shipping lines from the sea port of Pula and other cities that connect Istria with the rest of the coast and islands.

The cities of Pula and Pazin are emerging as the centers of the region. In central Istria there are the towns of Buzet, Motovun, Višnjan and Žminj, while the western Istrian coast consists of a number of towns and tourist centers such as Rovinj, Poreč and Umag. The east coast of Istria stretches from Plomin through Učka to Lovran and Opatija, where it touches the Kvarner region. Brijuni National Park is located in Istria, an archipelago located a few kilometers west of the Istrian coast.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND SIGHTS

The first population in the area of Istria appears as early as prehistoric times. In the years before our era, the Histra tribe appears, which will soon be conquered by the Romans. The Roman era left a large number of ancient monuments in Istria, such as the famous amphitheater in Pula (Pula Arena) and many other monuments spread throughout Istria.
